To Die For: A Cookbook of Gravestone Recipes

For some of us, food is a connection to a person we have lost. We remember the smells, taste and comfort certain dishes provide, not just because they were “to die for” but because they came from someone we loved.

Some recipe were so well-loved, that people actually started having them engraved on headstones.

Rosie Grant has been searching out and documenting this interesting phenomenon. In “To Die For”, Rosie collected 40 recipes she found across the globe, carved into headstones or associated with a grave that has a story to share. Each recipe is accompanied by an interview with the remaining family, plus photography of the food, the gravestone. Rosie has documented the connection between food, legacy, and family, remembering the deceased through the recipes they most loved.

You can find out more about the book, and Rosie on her instagram page, @GhostlyArchive. The book is available from various booksellers including Amazon and Indigo.
